Quantum Leap Weekly Update June 5th, 2007

Hey all. With the upcoming move, we've been a little backed up, so this update will include the past two weekends. Memorial Day weekend was a blast! Despite a crummy forecast, we ended up with almost perfect weather all three days. Saturday morning brought crystal-clear skies and it stayed that way until after 6pm. The Beech kept busy all day flying a mix of students and fun-jumpers. Just as we were cutting jumping short because of storms, a group of jumpers headed over to the campground to complete their B-license water training with Kelly. Since the whole dropzone had moved to the campground, the party continued into the evening with a mix of margaritas (compliments of the dz), jello-shots (compliments of James Sakai), Joe Jackson's "big crock" deep-frying turkey, and Chad Nipper's "special" concoction.

Sunday's weather wasn't quite as cooperative as Saturday's, but we still got a handful of loads up between the brief weather holds. Memorial Day Monday brought perfect weather and the Beech flew full all day long. We couldn't have done it without Dave Salaz, who flew the Beech all weekend while Bill flew some demos in Kansas City. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic Memorial Day weekend -- we look forward to many more!

Last weekend the Beech flew to Waterloo, Iowa for the Couch Freaks' First-ever Waterloo Boogie. While the weather didn't cooperate as well as hoped, the ten of us that went had a blast! The Beech departed Iowa early because of the weather, and got back early enough on Sunday to fly four loads before sunset. Thanks to everyone in Iowa for your great hospitality!

This week is the first week of full-on weekday jumping. We have lots of tandems booked on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, so the Beech will be flying all afternoon on those days (jumping starts at noon). We hope you'll come on out and get your mid-week jump fix in.

This weekend will be our last big weekend in Sullivan before the move to Bowling Green, so we would like to thank the community of Sullivan for 15 great years by having one last big weekend before we move. The GOONS will be putting together some big-ways and we will be having a big party at the campground on Saturday night.

The following weekend is Freefall Express' annual Hillbilly Boogie, featuring Mike Mullins' King Air. Due to unforseen circumstances, the King Air will be unable to be there on Thursday on Friday, so we will be flying the Beech 99 down to help out. We will be heading down on Thursday afternoon and coming back on Friday evening, so if anyone is interested in riding with us, just let me know. We will be flying the Beech in Sullivan all weekend while we start moving stuff up to Bowling Green.

Everything is coming along great in Bowling Green and everyone is looking forward to the new, larger facilities. Since we get to start from a clean slate, we'd love to hear ideas as to what people would like to see at the DZ. We are also looking for people with construction experience who can help out with things like new showerhouses for the campground, the tiki bar, and any other projects around the DZ.

Last, but certainly not least, Chad Nipper and Gail Paternoster have formed a 2-way team.  They've got the matching jumpsuits and are working on the matching rigs, but have yet to get a team name.  Please check out the photo below and e-mail us with suggestions.  Whoever chooses the best team name will receive a free jump, courtesy of Skydive Quantum Leap.
