Wow—what a great weekend!
I think this was the first Safety Day weekend that I've ever seen that
has had jump-able weather. Saturday
morning welcomed us with bright blue skies, light winds, and warm
temperatures. By the time the dropzone
opened at 9am, the parking lot was
already filling up. Everyone enjoyed
donuts, coffee, and juice for breakfast.
There was delicious chili for lunch, and lots of catching up with fellow
skydivers all day. You could tell it had
been a long winter: the first refresher class was packed full. Kelly, Larry, and the GOON SQUAD presented
excellent safety seminars throughout the day.

It was a pleasure to present the annual Ches Judy award to
someone very special. Every year, in
coordination with USPA, dropzones around the world give this award to an
individual who has promoted safe skydiving in a substantive way through
example, deed, training, or innovation.
This year’s deserving recipient was Steve Parrella. Steve's selfless dedication to safety in this
sport and safety at our DZ has benefited everyone, and for that we thank
him.

There was also a lot of skydiving amidst the Safety Day
seminars. The plane kept flying until
just past sunset, and everyone enjoyed the beautiful, warm weather.

After sunset most of us headed over to the campground. There were about 40 jumpers hanging out
around the bonfire and the Blue Sky Bar, enjoying Keith’s delicious barbequed
bison burgers and lots of great drinks.
When Jo and I left around midnight,
there were still at least 30 jumpers still hanging out, and apparently the
party was still going strong when the sun came up the next morning. Twenty jumpers stayed overnight at the
campground, taking advantage of the close proximity to the party, and the quick
trip back to the DZ in the morning. Many
thanks to Keith for working all afternoon and evening to provide a great party
for everyone!

Between the full day of jumping on Saturday and the late
night of festivities at the campground, Sunday was a bit slower. We still managed to get up 11 loads before
the end of the day. All weekend long, we
kept hearing everyone comment on how great a time they had, and how great it
was to be hanging out with their "family" again! We're looking forward to a fantastic 2007!

We're only a few weeks away from our Grand Reopening Boogie,
and boy does it look like it's gonna be a good one. Everyday we hear from more and more people
all over the Midwest who are planning to be here that
weekend. Thank you again to everyone who
has volunteered to help out and make the boogie a special one. We couldn't do it without you!

See you all next weekend!
